When things get tough...
What do you do when things get tough? When your coworkers don’t respect you, your family doesn’t appreciate you, or things just go sideways in a big way? Do you think about quitting? I remember when this question was posed to me years ago. My initial reaction was to say, “Of course not! I don’t want to quit!”
I will forever be grateful for the response I received. “Of course you do. And it’s okay to think about quitting. It’s not okay to let those thoughts fester and consume your mind. It’s not okay to think that these thoughts mean you’re weak or that you’re somehow ‘not cut out’ for this.”
Do you think about quitting? You wouldn’t be human if you didn’t. This is because hard times hit us all, and they can cause all of us to doubt ourselves. That’s normal. When that happens, the need for a close-knit support system becomes even more real.
Take a moment. Cry a little if you need to. Talk to someone you know and trust. You don’t have to be positive, happy, and cheerful all the time. We’re human too. We get it.
