Overcoming Suicidal Thoughts
When I wrote Finding Your Personal Mission, my initial goal was to demonstrate that suicide can be overcome. However, as the book grew, I realized that it was much more than that. Dealing with the action of attempting suicide while not addressing the underlying thoughts that lead up to it would not be enough. Looking back to my own life, I realized that I had faced suicidal thoughts every day for years. I thought I would be okay, but September of 2017 proved to me that would not be the case. If we allow these thoughts to come in, they will work to gain a foothold. We must stop them before they even enter our minds.
How do we do that? How do we head off severe anxiety, stress, depression, and suicidal thoughts? The answer came with the obstacles I’d overcome. Impostor syndrome, anger issues, poor attitude, and many other obstacles that each contributed to thoughts of, “Maybe the world would be better if I wasn’t here.”
I say this often, and it bears repeating here. The world is a better place because you are here. If you are having these thoughts, they are a lie.
